Satsang at Home
Satsang is association of people who are searching for the eternal truth. It is available to you at the Hare Krishna temple as well as in the homes of devotees in your neighborhood, through a program called Bhakti Vriksha (tree of devotion).
Bhakthi Vriksha is a system to encourage people to read about and understand Krishna Consciousness in a systematic, consistent and regular manner. It answers common questions such as:
- Why do bad things happen to good people?
- Who am I?
- How to connect with Supreme?
- Is there life after death?
Bhakti Vriksha Sessions consist of Mahamantra Japa (chanting), Spiritual discussions and Question/ Answers, preaching and conclude with Prasadam (food that has been offered to the Lord). The entire session is about two hours long. The number of members that can be part of one particular Bhakti Vriksha group is not fixed and can vary between 3 to 20 people. Each group has a Group Instructor (known as servant-leader).
The group instructor usually asks participants to do readings from the Bhagwad-gita or other Prabhupada books and the same is discussed during the Satsanga session. Mahamantra Japa session soothes the mind and creates a mood of love and learning, preparing one for the subsequent sessions. Spiritual discussion is usually from the pre- printed course content which is read by participants during the class.
Questions from the course content are answered by participants and elaborated upon by the group instructor. This session is more of a dialogue on spirituality and Krishna consciousness and allows participants to clear their doubts & share their experiences, thus creating an environment of learning & sharing.
The entire program runs for 65 weeks and one can join at any time during the program as the course does not demand knowledge from previous sessions. The temple highly encourages congregation members and new comers to enroll in the program to start a new phase of spiritual awakening in ones life.
The Bhakti Vriksha programs are very effective in motivating participants to give up habits detrimental to physical and spiritual growth and cultivate new devotional habits with a sense of love for Krishna which manifests itself in increased happiness and peacefulness.
