Book Distribution

Prabhupada said:  "If you really want to please me, please distribute books, distribute books, distribute books."

"Push this on. Then our movement is successful. All Americans should have at least one set of books. That is not very difficult for them, to purchase one set books. But it will be a good asset for them if they keep and see sometimes. Any line he reads, he will get transcendental knowledge. Anyone who reads Krishna book, he will become Vaishnava. That's a fact."

For Prabhupada books were next only to love for Krishna and his spiritual master. And by distributing books he was able to serve both, really well. Today devotion to Krishna is synonymous with ISKCON in North America all because of the pure love of Prabhupada, the power of his translations and writings, the efforts of his “book distribution rhinos” and of course the innate inclinations of every human who reads Krishna’s word.

Words are the medium of thoughts and loving and devotional thoughts are the means to serve Krishna. By serving him we fulfill the purpose we are here for, learn how to love the Lord and thus either finish our term and go back or come back to make others finish their terms. Books serve as compendiums of thoughts, instructions passed on from Krishna since ages, and the beauty is our being able to comprehend them through Prabhupada’s translations.

We have a highly homogenous and heterogeneous collection of books. Homogenous because all of them talk only about loving Krishna, what he instructs, how to serve him and Heterogeneous because they are drawn from the some of the greatest books humans have known, the Bhagavad-Gita, Shrimad Bhagavatam and others. Each book lends its own perspective into the ways and means of reaching the Godhead but they all have exactly the same goal. Prabhupada’s writings, “Perfection of yoga” and “Chant and be happy” are examples of little books that can have a powerful impact on ones thinking of the world.

We distribute books in a number of ways at our temple. Every Sunday congregation has a stall in which books are distributed and everyone including new comers is encouraged to pick a few books as the means to start their Krishna consciousness journey. We also distribute books during outdoor festivals like Ratha-Yatra and Harinama.

Devotees also conduct book distribution outings when stalls are put up at various locations in the GTA area including Toronto, Etobicoke, Mississauaga, Scarborough, North York and Brampton. Please email us at Toronto@Iskcon.ca. if you need to pick up a book from our temple or find out how you can help us distribute more books.
